BRYAN HAYNES

2017 WINTER EXHIBIT

Bryan Haynes believes that stories of mythic quality deserve an epic scale, and tends to think of his compositions as “studio murals” rather than straightforwardly portable canvases. A strong sense of setting - time, place, and season - pervades his painted storytelling, and the term, “New Regionalism,” is both an apt descriptor of his work and the title of a beautiful publication on his artwork (Missouri Life Media, 2013). Strength, rootedness, and classical heroism are recurring themes in Haynes’ work, which is tightly bound to Missouri history and Midwestern sensibility.
