2017 WINTER EXHIBIT
In Cathy Broski’s titles, and in her imagery, we see a recurring reference to protection and guidance. Vessels navigate tilting waters overseen - perhaps steered - by tall, serene figures. Individually sculpted, fragile, little forms are counterpointed by their more substantial protectors. A highly attentive combination of hand-building ceramic techniques lends detail to otherwise simplified figural depictions. Her symbols are both personal and archetypal, allowing her viewer the intellectual space to connect with and interpret their layers of meaning.
