Of her inspiration, Columbia painter Greta Myers says, “Social media allows me to indulge my natural voyeuristic tendencies by looking at the way people present themselves. As I gaze through the skewed lens of social media, I am able to create a place of my own through the pictorialized memories of others.” Her work fluctuates between more representational references and highly abstracted depictions of a setting or narrative. While each piece stands on its own in an absorbing sense of depth and place, all work in the series has in common the filter of Myers’s perception and expression. Others’ highly curated, shared images enter the artist’s full ownership as she adapts and reconstructs them with an informed yet intuitive eye for color and mark-making.
