Guotao Sun, born in Hubei Province in China in 1975, graduated from Hubei Academy of Fine Arts with a Master's degree in Mural Painting and Comprehensive Materials Painting in 2005. He is an Associate Professor of the Art and Design Institute of Wuhan University of Engineering and an Academic Secretary of the Mural Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association. He became connected with the art community in Columbia, Missouri when the University of Missouri hosted him as a Senior Visiting Scholar. Sun’s recent work explores the geopolitical struggle of the Korean Peninsula, giving visual and emotional weight to scenes of asymmetrical power by depicting from the point of view of a North Korean soldier. Some of the largest human truths are accessed via particular moments when the fragile and the mundane illuminate our deep similarities.
