2018 MARCH EXHIBIT
Katie Barnes’s work as a photographer is fueled by her passion for the environment. She holds degrees in both Fisheries and Wildlife and Photojournalism, and she sees curiosity as the link between these fields of expertise and her work as an artist. She was brought up in a family that revered and explored nature together, with vacations spent outdoors and in tents, in National Parks around the country. Years later, the natural world has become her favorite muse. These photographs convey the artist’s quiet but awed discovery of outdoor scenes from Washington to New Hampshire. They are printed on maple wood boards, giving the images a textural connection to the earth. Each image conveys not only the beauty of a specific place, but also a prevailing mood of reverence and stewardship of the environment.
