2019 AUGUST EXHIBIT
Born in Marinette, Wisconsin, Lita Kenyon studied at Columbia College, where she completed her BFA, and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb for her MA. While Kenyon is new to the Sager Braudis Gallery roster, she’s been working for some time as a studio artist in Tacoma, Washington, with numerous national juried exhibitions to show for it including Columbia’s own Paper in Particular on multiple occasions. A keen interest in process drives Kenyon’s work - both the painting and overlay of her physical technique, and the process of exploring the space between intuition and conscious realization. The starting point for her amalgams of form, interestingly, is historic photo-documentation of female wrestlers from the mid-twentieth century. An inherent sense of motion survives a multifold process of abstraction, resulting in highly energized compositions with a rough sense of familiarity.
