Oscar Mejia is a Honduran artist living in Dallas since 1994. He notes that his work embodies "the intangible of the symbiotic relationship between art and life". As Mejia creates, he navigates through worlds of the representational and abstract--building an aesthetic that gathers imagery and influence from both paths. His choice to explore multiple artistic styles, palettes, and even mediums on the same canvas results in surrealistic imagery unconfined by artistic categorical dogmas, with the work becoming expansive epics in both meaning and scale. Many of Mejia's paintings, while voluminous, are infused with intricacies, cryptic in subject matter. This complexity immediately pulls the viewer physically closer for examination of the image on the canvas and then promptly pushes them away to comprehend the work as a whole, often resulting in more questions than answers.
