2018 July Exhibit

Shanlin Ye grew up in China and received her BFA and MFA in Fine Art from Tsinghua University in Beijing. She lectured at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology for five years before moving to the United States in 2012. In this exhibit, Ye debuts with Sager Braudis Gallery her charged, abstracted portraits, executed primarily in ink and watercolor on paper. She isfascinated by the fluidity and ungoverned nature of these wet media, her brushwork alternating between release and control to show the emotional and physical tension inher subjects. This series, Masks, emphasizesthe mystery and communicative power ofthe human face, which can alternately hideand reveal our true nature.
